Samsung announces swap for Galaxy Note 7 with Galaxy S7 variants
Samsung said it shipped 2.5 million units of the Galaxy Note 7 since its launch on August 19. Some users were complaining about the phone crashing, bootlooping or even being plain unusable – the dreaded “bricking”. Samsung could not comment on how many devices were faulty.

The global recall was a setback for Samsung and somewhat happy news for Apple as it prepared to launch iPhone 7 (on September 7), experts said. The phone had yet to launch in Thailand. This has led to the company’s decision to halt sales of the Galaxy Note 7. At 16%, the company’s mobile profit margin that quarter was the highest since 2014.
“So far, Samsung has not received any reports of battery cell issues with the Galaxy Note7 sets in Singapore”, he added.
Koh refused to name the supplier of the faulty battery but said sales in China, where it uses a different supplier, will be unaffected.
However, the company said there could be a delay in providing the free replacement – about four weeks.
Omar Abushaban, General Manager at Plug Ins, said that no official communication from Samsung regarding the recall in the UAE.
The galaxy note 7 was to be made possible in the Indian business and there have been totally 35 cases that have been listed globally and now leading a precise review with suppliers to know possible changed batteries in the Indian market.
Since reports of the exploding batteries emerged earlier this week, Samsung’s share prices dropped 2-percent, after reaching record-highs last week.
Samsung has said it aimed for the Note 7 to maintain strong sales momentum in the second half of the year against stiffening competition from the likes of Apple, which is widely expected to release its latest iPhone next week.
“The most important thing is the safety of our customers, and we don’t want to disappoint our loyal customers”, said the official. The company risks losing some loyalty if it doesn’t provide more details and guidance, Beilinson said. Mr. Koh said that Samsung is in talks with vendors from various countries to come up with individual plans. Especially since Apple is about to launch its 2016 flagships, iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, at an event on September 7.
Samsung said it is unloading devices from cargo shipments and plans to send back stocks already delivered overseas. Following the report, Samsung said it identified and fixed a problem in the manufacturing process of the S7 Active.
