The LG G5 wowed the crowd at the Mobile World Congress 2016 as it introduced the world to a revolutionary smartphone that people have not seen so far. “We are honored to be recognized for our industry-leading technology”, said DJ Koh, President of Mobile Communications at Samsung Electronics. It is worth noting that the March 18 pre-order date is just one week after the G5’s closest rival, the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, will become available in retail stores.

While it doesn’t state this on the Gear VR box, Samsung has assured users its VR headset will work on its new mid-range smartphones. “Gear VR is the best mobile VR experience in the world because it combines the leading VR software, built by Facebook’s Oculus team, with world-class mobile hardware, built by Samsung”. From virtual reality rapidly becoming real reality to a whole bunch of add-ons and no-shows, these were the top trends of this year’s MWC.

And online, Facebook and YouTube recently started supporting 360-degree video, giving consumers an easy way to distribute footage.

I guess in the coming months we will see what’s next for the world of VR and if it is here to stay.

This team will explore how people can connect and share using today’s VR technology, as well as long-term possibilities, as VR evolves into an increasingly important computing platform.

Virtual reality (VR) is believed to offer the most compelling and effective digital advertising with it is immersive and experiential. Facebook “is committed to [virtual reality] for the long-term”, he said. Mark Zuckerberg took to the stage, delivering his Mobile World Congress keynote to say just that, while also (now iconically) walking into Samsung’s Unpacked event while the audience with distracted wearing VR headsets.

It appears that Facebook’s acquisition of Oculus VR, developer of the Oculus Rift VR headset, in 2014 for $2 billion, was mainly aimed at developing enabling VR technologies and stimulating a VR ecosystem that, in turn, will fuel the next generation of Facebook’s social products. According to the company, VR will enable a new kind of social connection in future – like “the ability for friends who live in different parts of the world to spend time together and feel like they are really there with each other”.
