The South Korean tech giant revealed that it is conducting “additional” tests on the new Galaxy Note 7, which was announced earlier this month.

Galaxy Note 7 devices were already shipping in some countries, with its official US release slotted for September 2. South Korea’s Yonhap News said five or six explosions were reported by consumers, citing pictures of damaged phones uploaded on local online communities, social media and YouTube.

Samsung’s Galaxy Note7 is one of the best smartphones on the market. Samsung did not elaborate on which regions of the world would be affected by the delay, as there are several variants of the phone for different markets.

Samsung did not elaborate on what further testing was required and to where shipments of the high-priced phablet were being delayed.

Over the last couple of days there have been a few separate reports of Note 7s catching fire.

Samsung is doing the right thing by taking precautions until it can investigate the quality of its components, but all users should be reminded that using those cheap, knock-off cables is a bad idea.
