Following reports of exploding batteries in its latest smartphone, Samsung is expected to announce an “unprecedented” recall of the Galaxy 7 Note less than a month after it first debuted.

His remarks suggested that Samsung may recall all of the Galaxy Note 7 phablets sold at home and overseas.

It now seems that retailers and resellers in South Korea have mostly been affected, with an array of images appearing on social media showing exploded phones. If the problem is extensive, then Samsung might have to recall a large number of units, which will once again deliver a crippling blow to the company’s revenue stream and reputation. Samsung did not offer additional comment to USA TODAY. However, another possibility is to reportedly issue a refund or exchange with a new phone altogether.

Samsung had hoped to maintain the strong momentum seen as of late, but a delay in shipments due to quality control testing all but guarantees Apple will gain at the very least a near-term edge.

There were no confirmed reports of any injuries. Samsung Electronics closed Thursday at 1,587,000 won ($1,418.23), down 33,000 won or 2.04 percent, from yesterday. The official also mentioned that it’s unlikely that Samsung would recall the smartphones on Friday, since the company is now in talks with Verizon and other business partners on the issue.
