Samsung Electronics to launch new Galaxy Note model in mid-August
This being a rumor (albeit from reliable sources), we can’t know for sure how Samsung plans to unveil the Note 5. This is particularly concerning for the Korean giant because Q215 was meant to be the time when the new Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge restored its fortunes.

Back in May this year, there was a report in Korea that said the Galaxy Note 5 would launch even earlier in late July, also saying the reason was to get a leg up on Apple’s launch.
A Samsung representative declined to remark on the rumors. The Galaxy Note 5 event should take place in a US city that hasn’t been decided yet.
Samsung has been in a lot of trouble. In the fourth-quarter of 2014, Apple achieved the highest single-quarter profit in recorded business history, and since then Gartner Inc (NYSE:IT) has also confirmed that Apple has overtaken Samsung as the largest seller of mobile devices in pure volume. The Galaxy Note 4 and Note 3 both were announced in September, so this would mark a seemingly minor but significant change in Samsung’s launch strategy.

There’s a question about where Samsung will choose to stage its Galaxy Note 5 launch if it is to do so weeks before IFA Berlin. This is pretty significant considering the inordinate success of the iPhone 6. The Korean manufacturer also chose to launch its flagship devices with an all metal unibody, combined with an all new curved display for the first time. The S6 competed directly with Apple’s iPhone 6, however it didn’t prompt many Apple loyalists to switch over to the Android platform. The device is said to retail at $480, making it the most expensive phone in the A-series. The Galaxy Note line, which has proved to be a strong hit with consumers, was the catalyst for establishing the phablet category and helped propel Samsung to new heights as the leader of the smartphone market. Reports of Samsung working on the Galaxy Tab S Pro first surfaced in January this year, but no details were available about the upcoming device. “It’s a bit unusual for a new Note model to be smaller than its predecessor (Note 4 had a 5.9” screen), but in the end, it’s all about a better handling, I guess. The increased phablet competition, combined with poorer than expected sales of its other smartphones, has made led to disappointing sales figures for Samsung.
