Samsung investigated the reports and concluded that the Galaxy Note 7 has a faulty battery causing the explosions while the devices are charging. The news follows a number of recent reports from users describing how the battery in their new Galaxy Note 7 phones exploded.
Another Galaxy Note 7 owner in South Korea experienced the same thing a few days later when her device exploded while charging at night. South Korea’s Yonhap News said five or six explosions were reported by consumers.
Samsung has said demand for the new phone is far exceeding demand, creating a shortage and forcing it to push back the launch in some markets.
Samsung’s Galaxy S6 Edge sales were hurt a year ago due to production problems with the curved display.
Samsung said the delay affects only the South Korean market.
While the Western world still retains a Samsung logo on their Note 7’s, Samsung has chose to exclude their logo in their Japanese and Chinese versions of the Galaxy S7 and the S7 Edge. In addition, reports of exploding Note 7 units could discourage potential buyers and force them to look for alternatives.
