The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) officially recalled the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 in an announcement.

While the Galaxy Note 7 has only been on sale in the us since August 19th, estimated sales of the device within the country are said to be at around 1.6 million units, and according to yesterday’s CPSC recall around 130,000 of those have been returned, which means there are plenty of customers who are still holding onto their devices.

After the initial reports of exploding Galaxy Note 7 devices, we’ve heard increased reports from users of other Samsung phones suffering the same.

If you have a Galaxy Note 7, look on the back of your phone where there should be a code etched on the bottom. Federal regulators say 97% of the Galaxy Note 7 phones in the United States have the faulty battery. That figure was more than double the 35 cases globally cited by Samsung when it initiated a self-imposed recall of the device at the start of September.

According to Samsung Vina Company, the swap programme was applied for 12,633 handsets sold in the domestic market from August 19 to September 7.

To prove that Galaxy Note 7 is safe to continue using, Samsung has provided an IMEI checker tool.

The commission mentioned, “Consumers should immediately stop using and power down the recalled Galaxy Note 7 devices”. He says customers are able to bring their phones to one of iRepair’s 5 locations around the Coastal Empire to begin the refund and replacement process. Manufacturer: Samsung Electronics America Inc., of Ridgefield Park, N.J. Manufactured in South Korea and China.

“The battery cell issue announced earlier this month is isolated to one battery manufacturer for one specific phone model”, a Samsung spokesperson said.

“Passengers may not turn on or charge the devices when they carry them on board a plane”, said the FAA in a statement.

“It appears that the usage rate of the phone among existing users has been nearly the exact same since the day of the [initial] recall”, Apteligent said in an analysis of its data.

You can either get a refund or a replacement, and the CPSC says customers should contact their wireless carrier or the retailer from which they purchased the phone.
