It is the first time for the country’s largest electronics maker to have a mass-scale recalls due to the smartphone battery defect and is estimated to have sold about 400,000 units in Korea alone. This will be done free of charge in Samsung’s service centers. According to an unnamed Samsung official speaking with the Yonhap News Agency, the problem has been narrowed down to the Galaxy Note 7’s internal [non-removable] 3,500 mAh battery.
If this is the case and Samsung issues a recall, prepare to have your battery replaced on Samsung’s dime. In addition, reports of exploding Note 7 units could discourage potential buyers and force them to look for alternatives. The stock closed 2 percent lower in the previous session.
The Herald says that Samsung plans to go forward with the September 1st and September 2nd Galaxy Note 7 launches in China and Europe, respectively.
Samsung’s newest phablet can help you log into a Samsung Windows PC using the phone’s onboard fingerprint reader. It did not say if those phones are different from the ones sold in South Korea.
Samsung said it is investigating the reports of the explosions.
This report is just one among the many being posted by users on social media, with pictures to prove that their Galaxy Note 7 exploded while charging.
There were no confirmed reports of any injuries. Last year, there were production problems on the curved displays.
“This is some major buzz-kill for Samsung, especially given all of the hard-earned excitement that products like the Note 7 have been garnering lately”, IDC analyst Bryan Ma told Reuters.
