Samsung Galaxy Note 7 users opt for iPhones, cash

Following last weeks massive, and scary recall of over 1 million Samsung Galaxy Note 7’s due to the batteries exploding and catching fire, the company has announced replacement phones will be available to those affected starting tomorrow.

Dozens of people in the US reported their batteries overheating, and 26 reported burns, according to the commission’s website.

The announcement follows the company’s decision on September 2 to halt sales and shipments of the Note 7, after an investigation revealed an issue with the phone’s battery cell.

Samsung will have enough Galaxy Note 7 phones in stores Wednesday to replace half of the devices recalled for a battery problem.

Fot=r those concerned about their safety in Samsung said in a statement that they have pinpointed the issue with the batteries and have corrected it on the replacements.

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has directed passengers not to turn on or charge their Samsung Galaxy Note 7 devices on board aircraft following recent incidents and concerns raised by its manufacturers. All customers who have purchased a Galaxy Note 7 will be able to swap the device for a new one – but as of Tuesday, retail stores still have little if any replacement stock. That offer was jointly announced with officials at the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission after Samsung was criticized for not coordinating more closely with the commission.

The new phones will be accompanied by a software update that, when installed on one of the new devices, shows a green battery icon on the top right of the phone’s screen to let users know the device is indeed the new one with an unaffected battery.
