Samsung Galaxy Note 7 users urged to exchange phones immediately

Starting with the US Federal Aviation Administration to the Australian Aviation giant QANTAS, many airlines and aviation regulatory bodies across the world have banned the use of Note 7 phones on their flight.

The phones should be carried onto the plane and not stowed in checked luggage, according to guidance from airlines around the world. To make up for the inconvenience, Samsung is giving away a free Gear VR (Virtual Reality) headset to everyone who pre-ordered it in India.

Samsung Electronics issued a global recall of the Note 7 on Sept 2 after investigations into reports of the device catching fire while being charged identified that there was a problem with the battery cell.

The Associated Press reported yesterday that Samsung also told customers in its home country of South Korea to stop using Note 7 phones.

Note 7 units may be hand-carried by passengers as long as the device is switched off at all times until disembarkation from the aircraft, Cebu Pacific said.

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission Friday urged Note 7 owners to stop using the device.

“Some said initially the Galaxy Note 7 could be the best smartphone ever, but now it’s possible the phone will go down as the worst ever”, IBK Securities analyst Lee Seung-woo said, predicting weak sales in the fourth quarter. For example, USA law prohibits the sale or resale of any recalled item once CPSC acts. UAE General Civil Aviation Authority also asked all national airlines to ban use of Note7 on the flight to ensure safety of passengers and the aircraft.

“Our number one priority is the safety of our customers, which is why we’ve worked hard to provide new replacement Note7 devices as quickly as possible”.

Along with the recall, Samsung has been forced to delay the handset’s planned release this month in several European countries including France.

Samsung Galaxy Note 7 has all top-end specifications and an improved stylus which is the USP of this range.
