Samsung Galaxy O to be a VR Centered Series?

Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster weighed in on Facebook on August 18 with the belief that Facebook will be positively impacted by the VR theme over the next three months. And to address investor questions related to the virtual reality use case, Oculus is hosting a developer conference in Los Angeles in September. Munster sees the conference as an opportunity for Oculus to “answer one of the biggest questions investors have around VR which is: what are VR’s use cases?” Munster also anticipates that Oculus “will announce the launch date for the Oculus Rift“.

When I spoke with Oculus VR CEO Brendan Iribe at Gamescom earlier this month, one of the first things we wound up talking about was the concern that, by funding the development of Rift-exclusive games, Oculus is potentially stifling the marketplace for VR games before it really has a chance to flourish.

The firm said that although its pre-orders projection is a few weeks earlier than expected, it gives Oculus adequate time to market and take holiday orders, and compete with HTC Vive, which is expected to be rolled out in December 2015. We expect pricing to be $300-$400 for the headset and $1,000+ for a computer capable of running the headset. Either that or a less likely scenario would be for the companies to unveil an all-in-one wireless VR headset solution.

Conclusively, the analyst laid out his findings on VR headcount from LinkedIn, which indicates that the 350-400 workers are employed on the Oculus project.

In the long run, Mr. Munster says that Oculus is well-set to become a market leader, and derive benefit from its acquisitions of 13th Lab, Nimble VR, Surreal Vision, and Pebbles Interfaces. As such, the analyst maintains an Overweight rating on Facebook with a $146 price target.
