Samsung has been extra fast with rolling out the latest monthly security updates from Google in the recent past, with the likes of Galaxy S7 leading the way in receiving this month’s updates. More specifically, software version MMB29M.T807VVRU1CPG6 should now be available to most Galaxy Tab S owners in the USA using Verizon’s network. Since Samsung is known for releasing the latest Android versions to its devices in South Korea way before the updates reach those in other markets, users stateside would be better off not expecting anything too soon. Expectations have to be tempered, however, as the model tested was running on Exynos 8890 instead of Snapdragon 820. As for the new features, the update brings Google Now on Tap, Doze mode for improved battery life, customizable app permissions, new pen settings and tools in Gallery app, and more. For better or worse, some apps will be removed in the process of updating your device.

The Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge were released in March with Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box and Samsung has confirmed that these flagships are the first smartphones in the Android 7.0 Nougat upgrading list, being followed by the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, Galaxy Note 5, Note 4, J5, J7, A5, Alpha, A8 and S5. According to a change log published by Verizon, this update removes Amazon Music, Amazon Appstore, VZ Navigator, WebEx, and e-Meeting. But the company is expected to start it soon, as the variants are exclusively sold in developed markets such as the United States, Europe and China, where they directly compete with Apple’s iPhones, which recently got updated to iOS 10.0.1.
