Samsung Gear S2 smartwatch arriving next month at Verizon and T

Device makers typically release the SDK after the product announcement, but Samsung offered early access to the Gear S2 SDK back in April and unveiled the smartwatch in September, at the IFA 2015 trade show.

The Gear S2 is on sale today in Samsung Experience stores in Sydney and Melbourne, with wider availability next month. Meanwhile, there is also the more premium Classic, with a darker, more formal finish and leather straps. Those who would rather pay upfront will have to put down $359.99 for a cellular-enabled variant of the Gear S2. The pricing is similar to the basic Apple Watch Sport, which starts at $499, and significantly below the top-of-the-range $24,000 rose gold Apple Watch Edition. About $60 more than the WiFi version that is available now. They’ll get up to 500MB of data for the smartwatch which should be good enough for a wearable device.

Additionally, the Uncarrier will be offering the Gear S2 with the “best wearable plan in wireless”. Of course, being part of the Uncarrier means you get other features like unlimited 4G data, talk, and text in Canada in Mexico, Unlimited roaming data in over 140 countries as well as unlimited music streaming form over 31 services.

Other specs include a 1GHz dual-core processor, 4GB of storage, 512MB of RAM, a 300mAh battery that can be charged wirelessly, a variety of sensors that includes a heart rate sensor, ambient light sensor, and accelerometer, and Samsung software features like S Health, S Voice, Power Saving Mode, and more.

Samsung was the pioneer in smartwatches but fell behind in the sales race this year when Apple launched the Apple Watch in April and instantly became the market leader. November 6th is its landing date on Big Red, so circle that date on your calendar if you’ve been anticipating it. You can pre-order it ahead of time if you feel so inclined.
