Samsung going retro, returning to flip phones

Photos and specs for a flip phone dubbed the Samsung SM-W2016 has appeared on the Asian certification body TENAA, as Sam Mobile points out. According to the report, the new Samsung flip phone weighs 204 grams and is 15.1 mm thick when folded shut.

Several outlets have confirmed that Samsung is preparing to release a ‘roided up flip phone. However, the phone did shed the Galaxy Golden 3 name for a shorter W2016.

If you think that flip phones are something you would find in your basement while scrambling for an album your parents buried in the 90’s, then Adele is here to prove that you’re wrong.

Samsung, in what seems to be a half unexpected, half unbelievable move plus secretly anticipated by a few, unveils their new clamshell flip phone. However, numerous other aspects mean that the J3(6) is a tough sell, unless you are someone who simply wants the Samsung branding.

Without a doubt, the unannounced, premium flip phone is indeed an upgrade to last year’s Galaxy Golden 2. It’s something that we haven’t seen since touchscreens began dominating as the smartphone input method of choice. Others have said it will come in two sizes, a 5.2-inch screen, and a 5.8-inch screen, with at least one of them having a 4K display. At its rear you’ll find a 16-megapixel camera while up front it has a 5-megapixel shooter.

First things first, it’s worth noting that – although a low-end smartphone – the Galaxy J3 enjoys an updated design inspired by the Samsung Galaxy S6. It will support the classic T9 style keypad instead. This is why we have nothing but the TENAA specs to go on to until Samsung decides to unveil the details officially. Both the S6 Edge+ and the Note 5 include 5.7-inch quad HD Super AMOLED displays, 4GB of RAM-up 1GB from previous versions-and more powerful octa-core Exynos 7420 processors. We can expect Samsung to confirm that same at India launch. Flip phones may have gone out of fashion in the West but they remain popular in parts of Asia.
