Samsung launches Galaxy Note 7 exchange programme

Samsung issued a global recall for its flagship Smartphone Galaxy Note 7 units in early September after the technology giant discovered a battery fault in the phone which caused it to explode.

“Regretfully, we are unable to reveal the exact date of Galaxy Note7’s availability in Indonesia”, PT Samsung Electronics Indonesia’s public relations manager, Shinta Wardiastuti, told The Jakarta Post via email Wednesday.

The move means that Samsung plans to resume sales of the Note 7 next month. The lithium ion battery cell can overheat when charging, which can lead to batteries catching fire.

In fact, there have been numerous reports of smartphones catching fire in the past few years, with some even exploding, but it seems that only Samsung chose to play it on the safe side and recall units. This means that the availability of the new Galaxy Note 7 handsets in physical retail stores in the United Kingdom would be during the last week of September.

The Note 7 is available in four colors – Black Onyx, Silver Titanium, Gold Platinum and Blue Coral. The company may not launch the Coral Blue variant in India, although it has been very popular in Korea.

Customers have the option to either keep the phone and cross their fingers they’re not owners of a time bomb or exchange the phone for another Galaxy Note 7 once stocks come in. The company already offers full refunds to customers, and they will be getting replacement devices in the coming days.
