This is actually the second Tizen smartphone from Samsung, which is a bit odd since we thought that they would have gone with the Samsung Z2 name. This company manufactures mainly Andriod-powered smartphones as part of their “Galaxy” lineup of devices which has been up and running for quite a few time now.

SEOUL-Samsung Electronics Co. isn’t giving up on carving out an alternative to Google’s Android operating system. “The launch of Samsung Z3 re-emphasizes India’s significance as a key centre for innovation and development on the Tizen operating system, with India being the first country to globally launch the Z3.”, Asim Warsi, Vice President, Marketing, IT & Mobile at Samsung India, said. The Z3 therefore follows on from the popular budget Samsung Z1, and has finally been made official. Under the hood is the Spreadtrum quad-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz, unlike the earlier rumored Snapdragon 410 processor. The device is expected to be launched at “Tizen Developer Summit” that was held in Bengaluru on 30th-31st July 2015, but that didn’t happen. On the software front, it runs on Tizen OS 2.3. The Samsung Z3 features a 5-inch 720p (1280 x 720) AMOLED display along with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of expandable internal storage (expandable up to 128GB). The 4G LTE support is available here, of course, and the device costs Rs. 8,490 ($131) in India.

Samsung on Wednesday launched its third Tizen-based smartphone, the Samsung Z3, following the halted launch of the Samsung Z in 2014, and the limited region launch of the Samsung Z1 in February this year. The smartphone will be available in gold, black and silver color variants. Also touted was the Ultra Data Saving data compression feature. The Samsung Z3 is far from a powerful device, this is actually a quite basic entry-level phone, which is quite affordable, but you might argue there are far better-specced devices out there.
