Additionally, sales of the phone will be suspended in 10 countries, including the United States.
Samsung will reach out to current owners to offer a replacement “over the coming weeks”.
Koh Dong-jin, head of Samsung’s mobile business division, announces a global recall of Galaxy Note 7 in a news conference in Seoul on September 2, 2016. This will be a voluntary recall where you can get another brand new Note 7, because you just never know if your phone has a battery issue or not.
He said: “We have received several reports of battery explosion on the Note 7 that was officially launched on 19 August, and it has been confirmed that it was a battery cell problem”.
The Note series smartphones are one of the most expensive line-ups released by Samsung and usually inherit designs and features of the Galaxy S series that debut in the spring.
“We acknowledge the inconvenience this may cause in the market but this is to ensure that Samsung continues to deliver the highest quality products to our customers”, writes Samsung in an official statement.
The company estimated that it would take about two weeks to begin swapping old Note 7s for new phones.
While Samsung has not officially reported the major reason behind the recall, they believe it is highly related with battery, which may push Samsung to diversify its supplier base away from SDI and toward multiple Chinese vendors.
The South Korean firm said it would take about two weeks to replace the faulty devices with new ones.
Yesterday we learned that users in some regions were reporting that Samsung had pulled smartphones for a quality control check. Nevertheless we have reached the recall decision to ensure the safety of customers. Earlier this week, prior to issuing the recall, Samsung was forced to delay shipments of the phone to cell phone carriers as it investigated the issue with its suppliers.

The problem may have stemmed from the tremendous response from customers forcing Samsung to purchase batteries outside their normal parts channels.
