Another carrier in the United Arab Emirates, Etihad Airways, has already temporarily banned the use of the Galaxy Note 7 smartphones on board its flights, and the UAE also has two low-priced airlines, flydubai and Air Arabia.

Emirates Airlines has banned the Galaxy Note 7 smartphone entirely from its planes over fears of its exploding batteries.

The global smartphone leader on Saturday urged all customers to turn off their Note 7s and return them as soon as possible as part of the recall which it voluntarily initiated on September 2.

Since then, airlines and air safety agencies around the world have warned passengers against using them on flights.

But Samsung’s Note 7 storm will “most likely blow over in a couple of months”, he said.

The cascade of negative headlines has deepened investors’ worries about how badly the Note 7 debacle could hurt Samsung’s reputation.

Analysts said the recall could torpedo Galaxy Note 7 sales and have a lasting impact on the $211 billion company’s brand image, which could derail a recovery in its smartphone market share against rivals like Apple Inc. The company has told users to immediately turn them off as their batteries can explode.

The sharp fall on the Korean stock market comes after USA aviation authorities warned travellers not to turn on or charge the Note 7 during flights or store them in checked bags.

Speaking to What Mobile, a spokesman for The UK Civil Aviation Authority said the Note 7 should be, “switched off for the duration of the flight”.

Samsung Electronics’s board directors proposed Monday a plan to nominate Lee’s son, J.Y. Lee, as a new board member.
