Samsung Electronics (OTCMKTS:SSNLF) have announced an exchange program for users in the U.S. as part of the worldwide Galaxy Note 7 recall after the battery explosion debacle, and that users would be able to exchange their devices starting next week.

Samsung is allowing Galaxy Note 7 customers to swap their handset either with the Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge phones.

“The US carriers have already halted sales and offered ways for customers who have already purchased the device to get refunds”.

According to a statement reported by a technology website Verge, Samsung has announced its own exchange programme which will provide customers with a new device by next week.

In what Samsung’s USA operation arm called a “gesture of appreciation”, consumers will also receive a $25 gift card or bill credit.

According to the company, the Note 7 has only been released in 10 countries so far, but with different battery suppliers – most of the reported cases appear to have come from the USA and South Korea.

“Market sentiments are not with Apple at the moment and Samsung had to have a good run in months to come, buoyed by its super-successful S7 and S7 Edge devices and now Note 7”.

Explosions aside, the Note 7 has reviewed incredibly well.

The recall is expected to be costly for Samsung and could threaten its position in the smartphone market, according to analysts.

A statement from Samsung UK said: “We are now conducting a thorough inspection with our suppliers to identify possible affected batteries in the market”.

Samsung had sold 2.5 million of the premium devices so far, however, it is unclear how many of those are affected by the battery cell issue.
