Samsung Reportedly Considering Galaxy Note 7 Recall To Replace Potentially Explosive Batteries

Samsung had hoped to maintain the strong momentum seen as of late, but a delay in shipments due to quality control testing all but guarantees Apple will gain at the very least a near-term edge.

Following the reportedly halted Galaxy Note7 distribution in Korea after reports of the smartphone exploding during charging, the company is allegedly thinking of recalling units, which have already been sold but this decision is still in the making.

The news that the Galaxy Note 7 may be faulty, and potentially unsafe to users, is hurting Samsung’s stock as well.

It’s only been a couple of weeks since the Galaxy Note 7 released to glowing reviews, but reports are now claiming that the company is pressing pause on shipments of the device. Why? The Note 7 went on sale on August 19 in South Korea and according to The Chosun Ilbo the first case of a Note 7 exploding was reported on August 24. Note 7 shipments are continuing globally and this delay affects the South Korean market only, Samsung spokeswoman Sophia Kim told the Associated Press Thursday. Several outlets are reporting Samsung plans to recall the phones to replace the batteries rather than providing complainants with entirely new phones. It cited pictures of severely damaged phones shared in local online communities, social media and YouTube.

“There was another explosion of the Galaxy Note 7”.

The exact cause of these explosions is unclear, but it obviously presents a concern for customers who own the device.

Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7 features a 2,560×1,440 Super AMOLED dual curved display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 quad-core 64-bit 14nm processor, 4GB of RAM, 12-megapixel Dual Pixel rear-facing camera, wireless charging, an iris scanner, IP68-rated waterproofing, and a 3,500 mAh battery.
