Always On display: While Samsung has equipped the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge with QHD, iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus sport an 4.7-inch HD (720p) and 5.5-inch Full HD (1080p) displays respectively.
This feature was omitted from all the major flagships previous year and had disappointed many Samsung smartphone loyalists.
The company also debuted its first 360 degree camera, the Gear 360, which takes all-around photos and videos that can be uploaded to Facebook and YouTube, or viewed as immersive experiences on Samsung’s virtual reality headsets.
In addition, both devices feature IP68-rated water and dust resistance.
The maker of the world’s best-selling smartphones has a couple new devices for your consideration.
The rear camera has lost megapixel count – it’s 12MP, down from the 16MP lens on the S6 – but it’s got some more advanced tech. Although both run on different hardware and platform, there are some features that you’ll only get on the Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge and not on Apple’s iPhones. The standard S7 has a 3,000 mAh battery, while the S7 Edge brings a 3,600 mAh cell, but both arrive with glass front and back panels and a metal frame around the edges.
The Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge coming to South Africa will be using the firm’s own octa-core Exynos 8990 processor and the GPU is said to push out 60% more power than the Galaxy S6 series. Users can even download the videos and automatically stitch them together using the software on the phone, so you’ll have a VR-ready video in no time at all.
“Pretty soon, we’re going to live in a world where everyone (can) share and experience whole scenes as if you’re right there in person…” Samsung announced that if you buy an S7 phone between February 23 and March 18, you will receive a free Gear VR virtual reality headset.

Although the camera megapixels have dropped from 16 on the SG6 to 12 on the SG7, Samsung says this allows for 56% more light. The carrier is yet to announce the plans and pricing of the new smartphones.
