Samsung’s first Ultra HD Blu-ray player
The Samsung UBD-K8500 is now up for preorder and promises to deliver the “ultimate cinematic experience”. Not to mention, it cost roughly $3,300 United States dollars, a steep price indeed for the world’s first 4K Blu-ray player.

The Samsung UBD-K8500 Ultra HD Blu-ray player is scheduled to ship sometime in March, meaning it’s likely already in the manufacturing process or will be soon. The company has taken the wraps off its “Ultra HD Premium” certified DX900 4K LED LCD TV, and the UB900 Ultra HD Blu-ray player.
Samsung’s entire 2016 SUHD TV lineup has been awarded UHD Premium Certification. Sony promised “the best new and classic titles from the 4K digital library of Sony Pictures”.
The features will include 4K resolution, as well as HDR support. Of course, you’ll also be able to use the UB900 to watch 4K videos and photos you’ve shot yourself, and its 802.11ac, Miracast and DLNA support means you can share content with your whole family over your home network.
The age of 4K Ultra High Definition is making a spectacular entrance to America’s living rooms with a level of detail that quadruples the quality of your older 1080p Full HD TV (8 million pixels to the older 2 million pixels).
The company said the player is high dynamic range (HDR) compatible, and offers four times the resolution and 64 times more detailed colour expression than a conventional Blu-ray player. First up was Panasonic, who unveiled its very first 4K Blu-ray player in the form of the DMP-UB900.

The Ultra HD Blu-ray also incorporated upscaling technology, so content from standard Blu-ray Discs and DVDs will be improved for display on an Ultra HD TV. I would expect Amazon.com’s price to match Samsung’s at $399 when it pops up for pre-order there.
