Samsung’s huge 18in tablet is now officially ready to drop jaws

Samsung’s long-rumored Galaxy View tablet is now official.

The 18.4in device is perhaps best described as a portable media device screen… thing (PMDST), or maybe we’ll just call it the Galaxy View, and give up labelling it altogether.

Its 18.4-inch display is ridiculously oversized for a tablet, but could be a good size for a TV that sits, say, a few feet away on a coffee table. But while Apple’s 12.9-inch iPad Pro and Microsoft’s 12.3-inch Surface Pro 4 are 2-in-1s that double as laptops, Samsung’s ginormous Galaxy View is more about video.

Unsurprisingly Samsung is singing the View’s praises when it comes to video playback, billing it as “a new dimension in mobile entertainment”. Oh, and it’s still got that weird handle-slash-kickstand on the back. Samsung also included stereo speakers in the large tablet for more immersive audio quality.

On the inside, the tablet is powered by an octa-core Exynos processor clocked at 1.6 GHz, and 2 GB of RAM. It comes with 32 GB and 64 GB storage options which can be further expanded using a microSD card.

In terms of a Galaxy View release date and price, we’re still waiting to hear from Samsung, but it’s safe to assume this slate won’t come cheap.
