Sdn Bhd will be replacing its troubled Galaxy Note7 model with Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge next week, the company said in a statement today. This looks like just a small drop in the bucket next to the company’s billion pile of cash, but the damage done to its reputation may be harder to deal with. A company spokesperson confirmed to The Verge that in most cases, its Note 7 refund policy does extend to accessories.

The product safety agency said that 1.9 million original and replacement Galaxy Note 7 smartphones are subject to the expanded recall in the USA, including 1 million Note 7 phones sold after Samsung’s first round of recall on September 15. “Samsung is printed on the top front of the phone and Galaxy Note 7 is printed on the back of the phone”, the Commission said. With the dent in revenue, operating profit will be lower by mid-two trillion won in the fourth quarter and about a trillion won in the first three months of 2017, Samsung said.

It promised to “focus on enhancing product safety for consumers by making significant changes in quality assurance processes”.

An expanded USA recall was ordered Thursday for Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphones, including replacements for the devices plagued by exploding batteries.

Of late technology giant Samsung has been dogged by reports of its Galaxy Note 7 bursting into flames and causing some serious injuries to its users.
