Samsung’s new jumbo phone unlocks with your eyeball and an iris scanner

Samsung is using a 5.7-inch, curved screen display for the Galaxy Note 7. The phone can be used for streaming HDR video and features Game Pack, with new user benefits and game titles.

The most talked about feature is sure to be the new iris scanner, a tiny infrared camera that sits just beside the “selfie” camera on the front of the device. While there is a good amount of innovation in the Note 7-it may well be the top-end phone yet produced-what struck me most while looking at the actual device is how it has taken concepts from previous phones and refined them to make the device not only do more, but to do things in a simpler way. But that difference is hard to notice because the Note 7 is also slightly bigger and heavier than the S7 Edge. Samsung will launch the Note 7 on August 19. The cable, like the phone, is symmetrical.

But what’s the advantage of USB-C you may ask?

Samsung also took the wraps of an upgraded GearVR headset – its virtual reality headset which is compatible with its latest device.

The stylus, the signature feature of the Note lineup, seems to be more versatile as it allows users to translate texts in pictures and on webpages by pointing at the text with the digital pen. The screen also curves on the left and right edges. It is powered by a 64-bit Exynos 8890 Octa-core (2.3GHz Quad-core + 1.6 GHz Quad-core) Processor with 4GB RAM. Continuing the tradition of past products like last year’s Galaxy Note 5 and the new S7 Edge, Samsung has expanded its concept by adding the waterproof feature to the phone and the S Pen, plus a 64Gb internal storage capacity with the option for expansion up to 256GB via MicroSD card. Users can bring ideas to life the moment inspiration strikes without unlocking the screen by using Screen off memo and simply pinning the memo to the Always On Display. The new device employs a similar design to the Galaxy S series, but offers a larger screen and functions involving a pen accessory.

With Note 7, the buying decision is clear than before.

Heater writes, “The new Note is water and dust resistant for the first time, with the S Pen scoring an IP68, which means, in real-world terms, that the device is protected from water immersion up to one meter – a fact the company was more than happy to show off at the phone’s debut, along with the impressive fact that the stylus is capable of writing on a wet display, should you have to jot down something important during a downpour”.

Network: LTE Cat. 12 / LTE Cat. The USB-C pin is modular, you’re able to swap it out for a micro USB pin, included with the new Gear VR. Additionally, the Galaxy Note7 can be used with the new high-resolution (3840×1920) Gear 360 camera, to capture, edit and share 360-degree images and videos on the go. The Galaxy Note 7’s Super AMOLED screen makes the viewing experience on the new Gear VR noticeably better than the current Gear VR.

Field of View (FOV): 101°.

In a year of disappointing Android releases, the one device that’s stood out so far has been the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. Samsung’s edge screen has been closed to developer initiative, and I’d have loved to see a regular Galaxy Note 7 instead.

Pre-orders for the device come with a free $200 account credit, and the option of an exclusive Silver Titanium variant of the device, only available to Spark customers.
