Samsung’s Smart TV Wins Best of Innovation Award for Accessibility
Samsung and SmartThings are buddying up to introduce Samsung’s latest line of Smart TVs, complete with SmartThings platform integration so folks can use their TVs as an interface to control the home. Provided, however, they are compatible with the SmartThings platform, which, of course, Samsung now owns. The South Korean giant also revealed that all of its SUHD TVs will have IoT Hub technology enabling the TV to control other smart appliances.

Samsung’s smart TV operating system was created to be Internet of Things (IoT) ready for easy connectivity and interoperability with other online services and systems.
The TVs will control SmartThings-brand sensors and more than 200 other SmartThings-compatible devices, including lights, locks, thermostats, and security cameras. As SmartThings adds more products to its list of compatible devices, the real challenge is making those devices controllable in the simplest way possible. The company also boasts of the smart TV’s enhanced readability, as a result of a new graphical user interface. However, to allow it to play nice with the entire range of SmartThings devices, you’ll need to plug in a “SmartThings Extend” USB adapter.
The Samsung Group has announced that one of the new Samsung Smart TVs has won a Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2016 Best of Innovation Award in the category of Accessible Tech.
Next year, Samsung Electronics is planning to make the TV the center of the smart home.
Alex Hawkinson, CEO and Co-founder of SmartThings said, “With Samsung Smart TVs working with the SmartThings technology, we have an opportunity to reach millions of households”. For instance, users can tap into security cameras right on the TV or use the SmartThings Cinema Mood to adjust audio and lighting for the flawless movie experience – all at the touch of a button. “Applying this technology into current household devices is a major step forwards that will make it much easier for everyone to experience the benefits of a smart home”.
While all of its SHUD TVs with ship with SmartThings technology inside, the functionality will be “activated regionally as SmartThings expands its platform availability”, the company said.
