Samsung’s Turtle Glass Could Be A Gorilla Glass Alternative
Samsung has been one of Corning’s biggest clients and if Samsung is going to develop its own Turtle Glass to compete with Gorilla Glass, tough luck for Corning then. Could it be possible that this handset will come packed with the Turtle Glass?

According to a latest leak, Samsung’s screen department has filed a patent for a completely new screen entitled “Turtle Glass“, which seems like an alternative to Corning’s protective layer. Basically, it will be Samsung’s very own scratch-proof glass display to replace Gorilla Glass.
On the other hand, Samsung has been rumored to be making its first foldable smartphone, which is named “Project Valley”. Though, there’s a competitor in the form of DragonTrail glass from Asahi which has succeeded to make its way into budget devices of present day, it’s still nowhere near the popularity enjoyed by Gorilla Glass.
Digital Trends reported that Samsung wants to work closely with Corning on the Galaxy Alpha, so a phone with “a sophisticated look” can be produced without sacrificing functionality. Samsung is known for creating its own products, such as its in-house Exynos processors and the Tizen OS. However, Qualcomm’s chips could return in Samsung’s next flagship – the so-called Galaxy S7.

Turtle Glass may mean what its name suggests: hard, scratch-resistant glass displays taking inspiration from turtle shells. The world of protective glass for mobile devices is thus filled with animals, real or imaginary – gorillas, dragons, and now turtles.
