Samsung Smart Control Remote Announced At CES
Alex Hawkinson, CEO and co-founder of SmartThings, added: “With Samsung Smart TVs working with the SmartThings technology, we have an opportunity to reach millions of households”. This provides consumers the one tool they need to control their entire home entertainment system. As a result, all of their upcoming Ultra High Definition TVs will theoretically be able to control other domestic objects based upon this platform, including lighting systems, door locks, and cameras-in effect, their smart TV acts as the smart home control hub. The company hasn’t said much about the device, but considering that every smart TV in its 2016 lineup will feature the built-in SmartThings Hub, it’s possible that the firm is planning on allowing you to control connected smart home devices using the remote as well.

Samsung says its smart control can automatically recognize each connected device. “Our goal was to give consumers a new type of experience, integrating live TV with streaming services and other content sources”, Lab Vice President Chris Turkstra said. With the refreshed interface, consumers can search through popular titles to find what they want to watch or play. “No longer will you need to keep track of several remotes to control individual devices”. Given Samsung Smart TV’s exceptional picture quality and large displays, users will be able to have a realistic and immersive gaming experience.
The new Smart Control remote is built on the Tizen platform, the same platform that powers the company’s newest smart TVs.
This turns Samsung’s Smart Control into a direct competitor to Logitech’s Harmony Remotes.
Ahead of this week’s CES, Samsung is showing off a new smart TV interface that’s meant to help you get to your content faster, and help you ditch the multiple remotes.
