Apple shipped 40.4 million units in the second quarter of 2016, which marked the lowest quarterly volume in seven quarters, despite the mid-cycle introduction of the iPhone SE.
“(Following the rollout of Galaxy Note 7), we will still retain the price of Galaxy S7″, Lee Kyung-tae, the chief of Samsung’s mobile business division, said in a conference call.
“The growth outlook for the second half of this year is brighter due to multiple big new product launches from Samsung, Apple and others”, said Linda Sui, director of Strategy Analytics, in a statement.
Samsung Electronics executives have said that they will keep up pace, and try to maintain their every year increase in profits irrespective of competitive nature of the mobile-tech industry. Samsung is expected to unveil its next premium Galaxy Note smartphone in August. The company said that it will continue to shore up the high-end of its smartphone business, which could help it entice customers who seem bored with the latest smartphones. It shipped 77 million phones during the quarter, almost twice as many as Apple and well over three times more than Oppo. Samsung experienced 5.5 percent year-over-year growth on the strength of the Galaxy S7 launch in March, whereas Apple declined 15 percent compared to the year-ago quarter as customers await the iPhone 7 series in September.
Net income, excluding minority interests, was 5.83 trillion won (€4.66 billion) in the period, the South Korean company said in a filing on Thursday.

Samsung Electronics posted its best quarterly results in more than two years and it expects continued solid performance in the latter half of this year. The company plans to expand the proportion of high value-added products such as flexible and high-resolution displays in its product mix. However, demand for semiconductors for mobile and SSD rose, and Samsung reported a growth when it comes to differentiated products. It was a slight rise from a 2.63 trillion-won profit in the previous quarter despite falling chip prices that were offset by robust demand for Samsung-made 3D NAND flash memory chips and 14-nanometer mobile application processors.
