Samsung to launch world’s first foldable smartphone early next year

After the curved edge display, the South Korean smartphone giant Samsung is planning to make smartphones with foldable display.

Samsung’s elusive and top-secret foldable smartphone project, code-named “Project Valley”, has been talked about much, and a new leak surfaced Tuesday, September 15, purporting to show the device, the Verge reports.

However the report claims that LG’s foldable displays might not actually result in an LG smartphone with a foldable display. The design of the foldable Smartphone looks like it uses a different hinge mechanism and an “elastic unit” to keep the screen looking like fully stretched. According to the tip given, Samsung is at the stage of testing the device to run under the Snapdragon 620, and on the newest Snapdragon 820 as well. Well, looks like Samsung is working on at least one of them to hit store shelves soon. Hints of its possible launch may come as early as 2016.

Samsung would most likely switch back to focusing on large-size OLED panel production when life expectancy for the technology increases and costs decrease, the report added. However, Samsung has still yet to confirm or deny about the validity of the news. The foldable design of this Smartphone features a pair of springs on either side of the hinge to power the entire system. Rumours also suggests that the Samsung has been testing the smartphone with foldable screen for over couple of years. The prospect of a versatile phone that can be folded sounds handy and practical.
