Samsung to replace or refund one million US Galaxy Note 7 phones
Samsung’s Recall Update Notice: “Samsung has announced a voluntary recall and exchange program on certain Galaxy Note7 devices in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC)”.

This recall involves the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphone sold before September 15, 2016.
Samsung has recalled 2.5 million phones after several dozen caught fire and exploded, probably due to a subtle manufacturing error. If you have not replaced you original Samsung Galaxy Note 7, please power it down and return it.
The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration said Thursday that air travelers must keep the recalled phones off and unplugged during flights, formalizing a recommendation it had made last week to passengers. Note 7 owners must not only turn off the device on airplanes, it said, but also protect the power switch “to prevent the phone from being unintentionally activated”.
Samsung said on Thursday that new Note 7 replacement devices will be available at most retail locations in the United States no later than september 21.
The bad news is that existing Note 7 users need to go through an exchange process to get their replacement unit.
The Galaxy Note 7 launched August 19 in markets including the United States, with the company touting its iris security scanner as one of its standout features. While declining to directly take issue with Samsung’s actions, Kaye said government action may sometimes be delayed when a company decides to announce a recall without first consulting regulators.
People who bought the phone did so to get the best possible quality and service, he said, adding that the handling of the recall “kind of seems like a strike on both counts”.
Consumers can exchange their Galaxy Note 7 for a new device with a different battery or choose to receive a refund, Samsung says.
Any phone sold before September 15, 2016 is subject to recall. “As we’ve seen from videos. the phones really do present a serious fire hazard”. “You can argue the phone might be even more important”. Initially, when the company launched its own informal program, users were told to shut off the phones immediately and trade them into their mobile carriers or Samsung itself in exchange for new phones.
