“If the exploded phone had burned near my head, I would not have been able to write this post”, she said in a popular online forum Thursday, where she shared a photo of the scorched Note 7 and described dousing the flames.

The battery issue comes less than a week before Samsung’s biggest rival, Apple, is expected to reveal its new iPhone next Wednesday.

Park said she’s having second thoughts about buying another newly released tech gadget, especially after losing all her personal data stored in the destroyed Note 7.

The official elaborated that the battery issue affecting Samsung’s new Galaxy Note 7 handset accounts for “less than 0.1 percent of the entire volume sold”, and added: “The problem can be simply resolved by changing the battery, but we’ll come up with convincing measures for our consumers”.

Samsung – the world’s top maker of smartphones and ordinary mobile phones – will also offer new devices for those who have already bought the large-screen smartphone, its mobile chief said.

Samsung president Koh Dong-jin said the company had launched an investigation, which found that a faulty battery cell made by one of its two suppliers was responsible for the problem.

It is now confirmed that the faulty battery unit is the root cause for the handsets exploding or catching fire while charging them. The company’s shares rose 0.8 percent early Friday after falling 2 percent the day before. Company officials did not reply to questions about how Samsung determined which phones are deemed safe and which require further testing. In addition, the company is also offering its customers the option to exchange their Note 7 handset with Samsung’s previous flagships -Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge.

The phones start at $850 in the US, more expensive than most phones.

There were no confirmed reports of any injuries.

Samsung has already halted their sales in 10 markets. Consumer Reports found that the phone didn’t live up to its water-resistance promises.
