Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Note 7 – a large-screen cellphone – on Tuesday in an attempt to take business from rival Apple. The Note7 is the first major smartphone to use iris-scanning technology which will use your eyes instead of fingerprints.

It’ll have similar specs to Samsung’s S7 Edge, with 4GB of RAM, wireless charging and a 12-megapixel camera. It is a dual sim device with dual standby support. It has water-resistant coating with IP68 certification.

If you’re in the U.S., your phone is powered by a Quad-core Snapdragon 820 processor, while worldwide versions of the Note7 feature an Octa-core Exynos. Later on, the company will release an unlocked version for Note 7 in the US. It comes in four colors: black, gold, silver and blue coral.

The Note 7 has a stunning 5.7 curved Quad HD Super AMOLED 2k display, USB-C and its trademark S-pen stylus which Samsung says is also waterproof and will work even if the screen is wet.

Also new on Note 7 is a discreet Secure Folder on the phone where you can stash all your most private and sensitive information.

Pre-orders for the Note 7 begin Wednesday.

The Galaxy Note 7 is Samsung’s so-called “phablet” smartphone and also comes with a stylus – called the S Pen – to use on the phone’s 5.7-inch screen. It has a USB-C type connector but also includes an adapter for your older accessories.

A stand out feature is the new iris scanner, which combined with Samsung’s Knox software will boost the security of the device.

The Galaxy Note 7 is not the first but is definitely the most high-profile phone until now to come with an Iris scanner.

“Powering a robust ecosystem, the Note 7 is the ideal device for those who want to achieve more in life”.
