Samsung unveils new Oculus-powered $99 Gear VR

Oculus Ready is a partnership with manufacturers including Asus, Dell, and Alienware, which will guarantee a simple, plug-in-and-go VR experience on PCs carrying the logo. Well, that is exactly what they have just announced.

In addition to being cheaper than the current version of Gear VR (which retails for $199), Samsung is advertising the new headset as both lighter and more comfortable than older models.

A short while ago we wrote about the fancy Marriott hotel chain offering VR headsets to their guests and we blasted the effort.

Still, the potential for VR, which places users in a computer-generated world, has attracted numerous tech industry’s largest companies. The new headset will also offer a Netflix experience unique to the Gear VR. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said VR’s could potentially have as much impact on the way we live and work as smartphones and tablets have had. It will ship in November in time for Black Friday.
