San Antonio’s RC Buford named NBA Executive of the Year

The results are in, and San Antonio Spurs GM R.C. Buford has won Executive of the Year for the second time in three years.

Executive of the Year is voted on by the league’s 30 GMs, so it is a peer-driven award, and shows that Buford is thought of highly by his associates. Buford, in his 14th season as the team’s general manager, previously won the award in 2013-14. He was instrumental in orchestrating the returns of Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, and Danny Green this past offseason as well.

It was a dizzying, whirlwind summer for a franchise that so often has resisted jumping into that fray.

Interestingly enough, as Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical relays, Buford actually cast his own ballot for Olshey rather than for himself. Neil Olshey (Portland, 63) and Bob Myers (Golden State, 38) rounded out the top 3 executives to receive votes, but one voter thought Presti did enough not only to receive a vote, but a first-place one.
