San Antonio students left in limbo after ITT Tech closes campuses nationwide
ITT Technical Institute announced Tuesday it is closing 130 campuses across the country, after the department of education cut off access to federal financial aid for new students.

ITT has come under increasing governmental scrutiny and accusations of fraud.
As of Tuesday, a notice on the company’s webpage said: “We are now not enrolling new students”.
The US Department of Education says it is working with community colleges and the Higher Learning Commission – an accreditation agency – to try to give schools flexibility in accepting transfer credits.
Two employees laid off by the parent company of for-profit college chain ITT Technical Institute have filed a lawsuit claiming the company violated federal law by not providing 60 days’ notice.

Instead, students received an email, saying that new requirements from the Department of Education were forcing the school to discontinue operations effective immediately. “And normally, if I was a for-profit college, I would find this money by enrolling and recruiting new students”. The other option is for students to continue their pursuit of a degree and enroll at another institution, in which case the student would be expected to repay all loans.
