San Bernardino Shooters May have Been Near Lake, FBI Says

The FBI assistant director in charge of investigating the San Bernardino attack said Thursday that divers were searching a nearby lake, but declined to say exactly what they were looking for. According to ABC News, the Feds are making sure “no evidence was missed” but “are not searching for any particular piece of evidence”.

American officials say Syed Rizwan Farook and his wife, Tashfeen Malik, discussed martyrdom and jihad online as early as 2013. “It certainly is possible that after this investigation has made more progress… that we may ask Congress for some additional assistance in reforming the program that allowed the female terrorist into the United States”.

The official has been briefed on the investigation but isn’t authorized to speak publicly. Marquez has not been charged with a crime. The couple died hours later in a police shootout.

Meanwhile, US government sources say Islamic militant groups ignored contact attempts from Pakistan-born Tashfeen Malik in the months before she and her husband killed 14 people at a California holiday party, probably because they feared getting caught in a US law enforcement sting. They were listed as witnesses on the marriage license when Farook’s brother, Raheel, Wednesday a Russian woman in 2011.
