San Diego Chargers are trying to trademark “Los Angeles Chargers”

The San Diego Chargers have applied to trademark the names “Los Angeles Chargers” and “LA Chargers” as the team considers a possible move to join the Rams at a stadium in Los Angeles.

They’re the San Diego Chargers for now, but for how much longer?

The Chargers filed intent-to-use applications instead of actual-use applications for the two marks.

If the Chargers choose not to follow the Rams to L.A.by January 15, 2017, the Raiders will be given the same one-year option.

An unnamed “owner” is reported in the Los Angeles Times comparing their ambitions for the development to Florida’s Disney World theme park. A joint statement issued after the meeting indicates both teams agreed to not publicly discuss details of the meeting.

The 300-acre development in Inglewood, a few miles from downtown Los Angeles, will provide a new home for the NFL’s Rams franchise, whose return to their former home city was approved by league officials last Tuesday.

They have not signed a one-year lease agreement with the Oakland Coliseum and don’t now have a viable stadium plan in their current market.

Would they share a stadium with the Rams forever?

The Rams’ first deposit came from Lakers great and Dodgers co-owner Magic Johnson, who has already announced his intention to buy a suite in the Rams’ lavish Inglewood stadium slated to open in 2019. The team has the option to be either, and it seems like they’d certainly want to be a co-owner – though of course, the Chargers’ owners don’t have almost the financial resources of Kroenke.
