San Diego Chargers at Kansas City Chiefs: Who will win and why

The Kansas City Chiefs are coming off an 11-5 season and a Wildcard birth.

The Chiefs are taking a slow-and-steady approach to getting Charles, who missed all four of their preseason games, into the mix.

“Every year is different”, Reid said of his team and its health. It should be a close game throughout, but the Chiefs will fall to 3-1 before heading into their bye week. The good news is San Diego will end their drought of not scoring a touchdown against Kansas City in over a year.

If he is going to take the Chargers to the next level, it’s going to have to start in a game like this. But now that they’re healthy, and with the inking of center Matt Slauson, expectations are once again high for the San Diego offense. I can’t stand Phillip Rivers but he has been a great QB for his entire time in the National Football League (and yes I just threw up in my mouth a little bit). I think Ken Whisenhunt gets the offense moving against the Chiefs defense, but I think Mike McCoy will settle for 1 or 2 FG too many.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said Friday afternoon that Charles “probably won’t play”, via the Chiefs’ team website. With their fourth match-up at home in the first eight games, the Chiefs should be undefeated at Arrowhead to this point in the season.

Newly installed offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt needs to find a way to protect Rivers and establish a running game with Melvin Gordon.

Charles will be listed on the injury report as doubtful.? The Chargers can pass the ball, but face a great defense in KC.

For those of who reading this for fantasy reasons, Spencer Ware will likely be the lead back against a porous Chargers run defense. “We don’t want it to replay itself this year”. Kansas City still wins this one 21-17. Oakland is a team on the rise, and San Diego just never seems to go away.

On opening day, the Chiefs are 29-27 all-time, including their first three years as the Dallas Texans.

“I’m excited about giving these fans an opportunity to see us play, and for us to show how much we appreciate that”.

Hali didn’t participate in a preseason game while recovering from an off-season knee procedure but is expected to play in Sunday’s opener. And be it penalties, turnovers or dropped passes, they just don’t make many mistakes.

The biggest news of the press conference is that Jamaal Charles is unlikely to play on Sunday.
