San Diego Chargers sign Joey Bosa to four-year deal

The Chargers wanted to spread out Bosa’s signing bonus over the life of his deal, but he reportedly demanded it all be included in the first year.

The article quotes an unidentified NFC general manager as saying Bosa “may not be a Charger”, because of the stalled contract talks.

The San Diego Chargers and their first-round draft pick, No. 3 overall selection Joey Bosa, remain locked in a bitter contract dispute with just two weeks left until the start of the National Football League season. But Bosa was an outlier due to squabbling over his offset language and signing bonus. The Chargers should and most likely will explore every avenue to get him on the field as soon as possible. After missing all of training camp and three preseason games, the third-overall pick is no guarantee to make an immediate impact in San Diego.

The Chargers threatened last Wednesday to reduce their offer to Bosa under the assumption he wouldn’t be ready to play a full season. In an AFC West that lacks top-tier quarterbacks, Bosa could quickly prove to be a difference maker. The two sides conflicted over Bosa’s guaranteed money.

The signing ends a 31-day holdout that got testy last week after the Chargers publicly shamed Bosa during negotiations. Regardless, this is a saga that both sides are extremely happy has come to an end.
