Floyd acknowledged that with Rivers signing a new deal, the veteran quarterback tried to convince him not to retire after the season is over.

Philip Rivers effectively ended all speculation about his future with the Chargers over the weekend when he agreed to a four-year extension with the team.

San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers is looking forward to finishing his career as a Charger – even if it might not be in San Diego.

The four-year deal will pay Rivers $83.25 million, with $65 million guaranteed.

“This has been our goal all the way through to have him finish his career as a Charger”. Rivers already holds the team’s record for the most wins with his 88 victories. “My expectation is that I’ll be a Charger and as of today, that’s a San Diego Charger”. Chargers owner Dean Spanos and Raiders owner Mark Davis are working on a shared stadium in Carson, Calif.

“Being a Charger for life, at the end of the day, was really important”, Rivers said, adding the trust the team put into him “outweighed any uncertainty” and “any other variables” concerning his future. “My lack of excitement was more about leaving this community, not a disdain for Los Angeles“. It wasn’t a hatred of Los Angeles.

“How I felt at the beginning, I think, could have been misinterpreted”, said Rivers, who also made it clear he was not misquoted. “I’ve enjoyed all 12 years”. It’s gotten to a point where we know what to expect from Rivers on a yearly basis.

That’ll take time to play out as stadium negotiations in both cities continue.

Between them, the two have 877 receptions, 12,380 receiving yards and 103 touchdowns receptions thrown to them by Rivers. “This is something special for all of the families”, McCoy said.
