Armistice Day wasn’t changed to Veterans Day until 1954.

Don’t worry, neither did we – and it inspired us to go out and learn more about Veterans Day. This year’s theme is women of war to honor all of our female veterans who have and who do serve our country.
“I served in World War II, I was in New Guinea and the Philippines”, said Edgar Lewis, of Owego.
“We’ve got a generation coming along”, Brown told KYW Newsradio”.
“It’s not the same now when we came home”, the Marine Corps veteran said. Dad never talks about his war days much – except he always likes to share one anecdote about being in a fox hole and trying to have a tin cup filled with hot tea.
Veterans said they were enthralled by the show of appreciation and said the rest of the nation looks at the city’s parade as a prime example on how to honor service members.
The U.S Department of Veterans Affairs estimates more than 250 thousand Vietnam vets live in Georgia.
“For them to understand what it means to appreciate Veterans”, said House. There were many veterans groups represented, including the Disabled American Veterans, the American Legion, and the Military Officers of America, among others.
Americans continued to acknowledge the courage of WWI veterans on each November 11 thereafter; and in 1938, Congress passed a bill officially designating November 11 as the day to “be dedicated to the cause of world peace and …hereafter celebrated and known as Armistice Day”. “It wasn’t until after 9/11 that I can really remember people saying, “thank you for your service” on Veterans Day”.
The courageous men and women who serve and protect the US come from all walks of life; they are parents, children and grandparents. Major General Baker said Veterans Day exemplifies the strong relationship between the CSRA and its military community.
“If it weren’t for them, we wouldn’t be here”, Don Bressman said.
