San Diego State beats Cincinnati 42-7 in Hawaii Bowl
San Diego State put an exclamation point on a storybook season Thursday night, hammering an overmatched Cincinnati team for a 42-7 victory in the Hawaii Bowl.

Any questions about how SDSU would play against Cincinnati in the Hawaii Bowl were answered in, oh, about 15 seconds.
Penny had his third kickoff return for a score this season – and second 100-yarder – and broke the Hawaii bowl record for the longest return. “But these kids just kept getting better and better”.
Penny fielded the opening kickoff about 5 yards deep in the south end zone, followed his blockers to an opening down the sideline and was untouched en route to the fourth kickoff return for a touchdown in Hawaii Bowl history. “We flew over just in time to eat, we went to bed, we got up the next morning, did a walk-through, had a pre-game meal, went to the game and went home right after”.
It was a Christmas Eve the Aztecs will never forget, even if there was a crowd of only 14,537 there to witness it. “They had a lot of guys talking, but we came out on top”. The Aztecs became the first school since Boston College in 1986 to run the table after a 1-3 start or worse.
The Cincinnati Bearcats (7-5) have enough win to be invited to play in a bowl. “You can’t play that way on offense”.
In between, running back Donnel Pumphrey, who may or may not have played his final game in an Aztec uniform, ran and passed for a touchdown, the latter being the first of his career.
It was as thorough and dominant a performance as the Aztecs turned in during their turnaround.
Moore threw two interceptions in the first half but did not get much help, with UC rushing for only 11 yards before halftime.
The Bearcats (7-5) finished tied for third in American Athletic Conference East Division.
Moore generally played subpar ball, going 19-for-30 for 202 yards and three interceptions. UC said last week that Kiel would miss the bowl game for undisclosed personal reasons. “If it was nine yards deep, I’m running it out”.

UC then went 3-and-out on its first drive, continuing the awful start. NCAA statistics recognize only 100 yards. They then promptly marched down the field on a 67-yard drive capped by a 1-yard Gordon TD run. He is an explosive player with the ability to handle the majority of the offensive workload for the Aztecs and showed that during their season this year. – San Diego State QB Christian Chapman completed 8-of-11 passes for 113 yards and a score, and ran five times for 20 yards.
