San Francisco 49ers finally bring back Jarryd Hane
Jarryd Hayne returned to the San Francisco 49ers active roster, but was unable to inspire his team to victory against the Detroit Lions.

The former rugby league star made the most of his early opportunities in Detroit on Monday morning (AEDT) and gave the 49ers the offensive punch they’ve been craving. Released Oct. 31, Hayne went unclaimed by other teams and was promptly added to the 49ers practice squad, where he’s served exhaustive duty on various scout teams, including lining up at wide receiver and safety as well as running back. He replaced guard Alex Boone, who has been placed on injured reserve. DuJuan Harris ran for a team-high 73 yards only five days after being signed off the Baltimore Ravens’ practice squad. Hayne said last week that he’s made significant strides in the sport and that he’s eager to return to the National Football League next season. Additionally he could see some snaps as a running back with Shaun Draughn already ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Lions.
Hayne, however, said he was going through his pre-game warm up on the Lion’s indoor Ford Field when one of his coaches walked up and revealed he would start.
Jarryd Hayne appears set to play the Detroit Lions.
Neither Hayne nor Gaskins has starting experience, and Harris is the most established rusher among the trio.
The 49ers’ injuries at the position have given him another chance. The 49ers lost Carlos Hyde (foot), Reggie Bush (knee) and Mike Davis (hand) to injuries this season – Davis could return from IR Boomerang in Week 17. In the first six weeks of the season, Hayne carried eight times for 25 yards. So you’d think Hayne should have been back to the active squad and develop the talent he has.

Hayne began the season on the 49ers 53-man roster but was demoted to the practice squad in October. They also signed Pierre Thomas, Travaris Cadet, Gaskins and Harris.
