San Francisco 49ers Fire Head Coach Chip Kelly, GM Trent Baalke

Kelly had success in his first year as a head coach in the National Football League with the Philadelphia Eagles, going 10-6 and winning the NFC East just a year after the Eagles went 4-12. Kelly worked exclusively on the collegiate level starting as Nevada’s conditioning coach in 1988 and became a household name as the head coach of the Oregon Ducks. “It’s about building a championship culture”. “That’s paramount”, York, the team’s CEO, said. After all, it was less than a year ago that York guaranteed, “Chip’s going to be here for a long time”.

Among coaches that haven’t been fired yet, but soon could be are Chuck Pagano of the Indianapolis Colts. It might take gritting through some down times-the way Raiders owner Mark Davis stuck with GM Reggie McKenzie through three really shaky seasons because he knew McKenzie would get it right.

“I’m confident in him”, Smith said. He will consul with others inside and outside the building.

By firing Kelly and Baalke, the Niners are at least willing to admit the sins of the recent past. In 2013, while coach of the Houston Texans, he collapsed on the field while walking to the locker room at halftime, having suffered a transient ischemic attack, or mini-stroke. Could Prescott have led San Francisco to an NFC West division title, while the Cowboys were the ones out of the playoffs thanks to Romo’s injury?

“Our structure will be a general manager and a head coach”. Still, the 49ers hired him, gave him a sinking ship, and then were surprised when he couldn’t make it float again? That starts with hiring two good people to replace Baalke and Kelly.

But will they get it right from here? Many believe Lynn is the frontrunner there, though the Bills abysmal performance Sunday in a loss to the New York Jets did not help his cause. The 52-year-old Baalke reportedly feuded with Harbaugh, leading to that coaching change.

GM to hire his own coach without any limitations. “There has to be a collaboration”, York said. “We haven’t accomplished enough. You don’t dismiss owners”, York told reporters. “I’m sorry… that’s the case…but that’s the facts.” .

“Nothing I’m going to say is going to be satisfactory”. “This isn’t about a business and running an operation to make money”. San Francisco will now begin a search for the fourth head coach in four seasons.

“But the marriage didn’t work”, he said. “I do see a bright future for them”. It’s easy to play revisionist history, but we are where we are. Kelly was an outsider as well, but hardly had a chance to right the ship in less than one calendar year.

“So the fact that Prescott was tearing it up for the Cowboys while the 49ers are sitting there saying, ‘We have an extremely unsettled quarterback situation”. There are some pieces here. I think the faithful has been great.

Changes to the top of a team’s personnel and coaching staffs trickle down to everyone involved in those departments.

Former Eagles personnel executive Tom Gamble is a likely replacement for Baalke.

-Nobody else has been fired, York said.

The new direction for the Chargers looks like it will be north, as a tenant of the Rams in the new Inglewood, Calif. palace that will open in a few years. “We need to make sure we’re looking forward and doing everything we can to get this team back”, he said. Kaepernick, however, has regressed since taking over for Alex Smith and guiding the 49ers into the Super Bowl to face the Baltimore Ravens during the 2012 season. “I owe them so much more than what we’ve given them”. People have questioned us in the past. “I’m embarrassed where we are now, and I’m going to do everything that we can to get us back”.
