San Francisco cop pleads not guilty to hit-and-run charges

San Francisco police Officer Christopher Kohrs has been charged with two felony counts of hit-and-run, according to San Francisco’s district attorney.

The men were hospitalized with injuries that were considered serious, but non-life-threatening, police said. His attorney, Anthony Tall, tells CBS 5, “I don’t believe my client was drunk”.

Kohrs is accused of hitting two pedestrians with his cars at around 2:20 a.m. Monday at Broadway near Montgomery in San Francisco’s North Beach neighborhood.

Kohrs turned himself in at the department’s headquarters Sunday, police said.

Kohrs had been on medical leave for an unspecified ailment prior to the incident, Sgt. Michael Andraychak said.

Gascon said Kohrs actually had the green light when the collision occurred and that the people he hit were crossing the street against a red light.

Kohrs had previously gained social media fame as the “Hot Cop of the Castro“, stemming from his time patrolling the Castro District and participating in events such as the San Francisco AIDS Foundations’ Big Gay 10K race.

Kohrs remains out on a $100,000 bond, and has not commented to the media.

He appeared in court in a suit and tie and stood quietly as Judge Edward Torpoco ordered him not to drive during the course of the case, unless necessary for work. If Kohrs becomes eligible to return to duty in the future, he will be suspended, the department said in a statement.

Gascón said while hit-and-run crashes are always concerning, they are especially so when there are allegations that a law enforcement officer was involved.
