San Francisco Unified School District Receives Terror Threat

And west of Indianapolis, police were searching Thursday for an unknown person who posted threats on Facebook and prompted two school districts to cancel classes for more than 7,000 students on their last day before break.

Istanbul airport explosion kills cleaner
Armed police imposed tight security at the airport’s entrance, Turkish media said, but flights were said to be running normally. In a statement, Pegasus Airlines said the explosion happened in the airport apron where planes are parked and unloaded.

“When school officials arrived at school this morning we learned of an email threat that came in overnight threatening danger to all of our buildings district-wide”, Schools Superintendent David Weiss said in a statement on the district’s website.

The move comes less than two weeks after two shooters killed 14 people in San Bernardino in what was the deadliest terrorist attack on USA soil since 9/11. Dallas police said they found no credible threat.

On Thursday, the school was placed on lockdown and after-school activities were canceled.

The district said in a statement that the validity of the threat it received Thursday afternoon remained in question, but it canceled classes on Friday anyway. Long Beach is adjacent to Los Angeles, where the nation’s second-largest school district shut down Tuesday out of caution after receiving an emailed threat.

Campus safety officials predict the number of school threats related to terrorism will continue to rise.

The district sent a letter to parents saying principals and school staff had been asked to stay alert and keep students calm and focused on learning.

“You want your kids to be safe you want to make sure that they have the proper security around them to make sure that if something were to happen they would be taken care of”, she said.

The Dallas Independent School District, with approximately 160,000 students, also said it would keep schools open. The official, who was not authorized to discuss an ongoing investigation, spoke on condition of anonymity.
