San Francisco Votes Unanimously To Preserve — Immigration Reform News

Democratic senators Joe Donnelly, representing Indiana, and Joe Manchin, representing West Virginia, voted with Republicans in support of the bill. Kirk doesn’t realize that to win elections that someone has to vote for him and right now Republicans have no reason to do so. That’s what we’re going to vote on at 2:15.

Appearing with Reid, Sen. Chuck Schumer called it a “show vote” – Republican grandstanding for political reasons.

The Senate moved this week to force cities like San Francisco to repeal their policies, and give unfettered access to federal law enforcement. Huge prisons, costing billions of dollars. The group supports pro-immigrant policy. The vote Tuesday was 54-45, with Sen.

Her comments arrived just before Senate Democrats blocked a bill that would have stripped funding from sanctuary jurisdictions that refuse to comply with federal immigration law.

If ever there was a true example of “double speak”, this is it. The whole point of the bill was to try to actually make our “communities safe” by enforcing the law and removing violent felons, like Kate Steinle’s killer, from the street.

The so-called Stop Sanctuary Policies and Protect Americans Act passed the House in July even after President Obama threatened to veto any such measure.

Earlier in the day, Senate Republicans in Congress tried but failed to push through legislation punishing sanctuary cities. It also included a provision called Kate’s Law, which would set a five-year, mandatory minimum sentence for any illegal immigrant who re-enters the U.S after having been convicted of an aggravated felony, or having been twice convicted of illegally re-entering the U.S.

Yet it is unclear if Kate’s Law would have made it through a vote alone either.

“Because here is the reason”, Toomey replied.

Mayor Ed Lee reaffirmed that he doesn’t want to see the city’s Sanctuary City ordinance removed.

The shift came after outreach by federal immigration officials and several high-profile cases, including the one in San Francisco. We must send the message that defiance of of our laws will no longer be tolerated. Feinstein has a more sensible view than the supes of how Sanctuary City policies should work. As a result he has become a voracious, conscienceless PanderBear (not to be confused with a PedoBear) who essentially acts an another Democrat senator.

Said a pouting Farrell, “To table the resolution “is the same as saying no one should have picked up the phone this summer (before Lopez-Sanchez was released)… and I simply don’t agree with that”.

But that is not enough for some Republicans – apparently some won’t be happy until we literally round up every undocumented immigrant and deport them, which would be catastrophic to our economy if it were not impossible. It begins by hitting critics who “derisively” use the term “sanctuary cities” – when the term comes from proponents.

Why do they oppose this bill? Both proposed resolutions are symbolic, leading Supervisor Malia Cohen to criticize them as, in her words, grandstanding.
