Fremont’s newest police dog has been found after going missing for more than 12 hours.

He weighs 85-pounds and has an ear tattoo, police said. He was discovered in a creek bed near Almaden Expressway and Branham Lane, Fremont police said in a tweet.
Niko is a 16-month-old dog, who disappeared from his handlers yard sometime between 10 p.m. and midnight in San Jose’s Willow Glen neighborhood.
Fremont Police are searching for Niko, a K9 that went missing last night in San Jose. Santa Clara police search-and-rescue crews also participated in the dog-hunt, and information about the dog was blasted all over social media early Sunday morning.
Niko looks to be in good health, police say, but he’s scheduled to be checked out just to make sure.
“We had so much support after we got the photo out”, Bosques said.
Authorities say Niko had dug a hole and escaped under the fence while his owner was asleep.

Niko is Fremont’s newest police dog, having only been with the department for a matter of weeks.
