San Jose Sharks Win To Reach First Ever Stanley Cup Final

They help provide leadership for the team and serve as players to rally around, creating the desire among the team to win it for guys like Thornton and Marleau. Acquiring Jones from the Boston Bruins (after the Bruins picked up Jones’ rights from the Kings where Jones had been a backup) last summer and paying him just $3 million per-year over the next two seasons looks like a bargain for the Sharks.

They have been teammates since 2005. It was one of Ken’s best years in the league.

Fortunately for the Sharks, who finished the Blues in six games, they’ll only get one of those two teams – and that opponent will be coming off an intense seven-game series.

“He’s been huge”, Sharks forward Patrick Marleau said before Game 6. Goaltender Martin Jones, who has three shutouts this postseason, is one of those players as is forward Joonas Donskoi.

The rating eclipsed the former record of a 5.6 rating that was set May 16, 2010 when the Sharks played the Chicago Blackhawks in Game 1 of that year’s conference final.

DeBoer has spent only one year with them, seeing how hard they work, how badly they want to win.

As seen in last night’s game, St. Louis did not have the fire in them, the Sharks came out flying and it was noticeable that San Jose just downright wanted this game more.

“I think my brother sent me the picture of me and Patty together in Pittsburgh”, Thornton. It’s been a long time that we’ve been the favorite. “Just trying to seize the moment”.

Laine will team up with another 18-year-old forward, Carolina Hurricanes prospect Sebastian Aho, with whom he won the 2016 world junior championship.

San Jose Sharks’ Joe Thornton fields questions after an NHL hockey practice Friday, May 27, 2016, in San Jose, Calif. San Jose will play Pittsburgh in the Stanley Cup Final. After blowing a 3-0 series lead in the opening round against the arch rival Los Angeles Kings in 2014, the Sharks failed to qualify for the 2015 postseason and looked to be in the midst of a massive rebuild following the departure of their long-time head coach, Todd McClellan. (In 18 games, Thornton has three goals and 15 assists.) It wasn’t just big names like Thornton, either, as the Sharks’ supporting cast contributed in a big way in Game 6, with Joel Ward netting two goals. Wait until you read this, between those five players – Backes, Brouwer, Steen, Tarasenko and Shattenkirk – only 9 points, 4 goals and 5 assists, were posted.

“Yeah, it’s really disappointing”, said Hitchcock. “It’s home. San Jose is home, so they’re bringing it”, said San Jose resident Robert Garcia. “I’ll tell you that right now”.

It was San Jose 5, St. Louis 2. After beating the defending Stanley Cup Champions, the top seed in the Western Conference and the Presidents’ Trophy winners were eliminated, it seemed like this team had all the momentum and arguably had the best shot out of the four teams remaining to win it all. This postseason Martin has played well, though if I had to guess I’d say he might be a little banged up based on his play in the Conference Finals.

“This is not the end goal”.

Pavelski, who was sitting alongside Thornton and Marleau, picked up the same thread.

“You try to learn from experiences”, Pavelski said. “It was exciting. The building was great”.

“Being here my whole career, being around the city, the fans, all the support they’ve given over the years, it’s great to see”.
